Discover Movement Intelligence and Bones for Life®

Ruthy Alon, Founder of Movement Intelligence Programs and Carol Montgomery, Senior Trainer Movement Intelligence.

Movement Intelligence Programs include:

Movement is a part of life, and our movement language does not stop expanding after infancy. Our bodies are constantly honing our mobility skills, developing our “movement IQ” as our minds communicate with our bodies somatically.

This unconscious communication allows for a satisfying and sustainable life that emphasizes thriving — not just surviving — while improving and refining our quality of movement through elegant fluidity and flexibility.

Howard Gardner’s book, Frames of Mind: The Theory of Multiple Intelligences, defines Movement Intelligence (MI) as our inherent ability to fine-tune the transformational process of converting our intentions into action.

MI integrates several kinesthetic concepts of the body: alignment, balance, endurance, flexibility, and strength. But beyond even these aspects, MI represents the body’s innate ability to organically coordinate and course-correct its internal functions in a graceful, encompassing way.

Through our natural capacity to communicate sensory-motor functionality from mind to body, MI promotes harmonic living and maximum efficacy of the human organism for a long and acceptable life.

Bones for Life®

BONES FOR LIFE® (BFL) – is based on Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais’ approach to somatic learning. Offering a new way of thinking about movement at both the personal and professional levels, Bones for Life® involves rewiring our brain to change inefficient habits in our postures and our movement patterns.

Bones for Life® is a comprehensive movement-based program for the health of the skeletal system. The movement processes facilitate function using weight-bearing postures and rhythm that alter skeletal alignment and pressure.

Compression, loss, and deviation are unwanted side-effects or habits acquired due to old injuries, disease states, or chronic areas of immobility.

Throughout the Bones for Life® program, we work to recreate the body’s capacity for weight-bearing and dynamic walking with a rhythm and spring, which in its original design was meant to offset the effects of gravity and enhance mobility.

In these classes, you will learn effective self-treatment strategies that allow the safe transmission of weight-bearing forces from head to toe.

The basic building blocks of Bones for Life® not only increase the liveliness of our day-to-day activities but create a stronger foundation for our supporting frame and perhaps reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Providing an entirely new experience of movement using the skeletal and muscular anatomy allows more profound insights into the inter-connectedness or “domino-like” transmission of weight-bearing forces.

BONES FOR LIFE® with CHAIRS

For some, sitting is momentary relief from pain when walking or a position of comfort and rest when one’s standing endurance is poor.

However, sitting is a large part of our job for most of us, such as professionals or students. It is part of the commute to and from work, our position during entertainment (social media, emails, movies, and TV), our means of travel, and community socialization (eating, sharing coffee, a good cup of tea, or drinks with friends).

In the last ten years however, research has demonstrated the link between excessive sitting and many health problems. It seems that not only may sitting be very bad for our health but it may impact our life expectancy too.

What if sitting could be used as a dynamic opportunity to shift from a position that degenerates to a place that facilitates whole-body wellness? Bones for Life® with CHAIRS does just that and more!

Using short, practical, and simple movement processes done in a chair or seated and leaning into a wall, the Bones for Life® CHAIRS program helps you release accumulated tension that occurs from long hours of sitting. These fun and straightforward movements can improve mobility, balance, and coordination, develop healthier habits and body awareness, which allows for more leisurely sit to stand, comfortable standing, and pleasurable walking.
